The newlyweds were spotted by the crowd at City Hall in New York City on Thursday morning after they said “I do”.

“We always knew marriage was in our future, it was just a little bit different than what we expected,” Amabel, 36, and Pete, 25, told PEOPLE exclusively.

“We still have plans for the big wedding next fall that we’re already planning, but everything in our relationship is so public, having a private moment just made us both feel so special and close,” they add. “Natasha Parker was our witness, the one who saw our relationship from the beginning.”

They continue, “We can’t wait to celebrate next year with our family and friends at the wedding, because who doesn’t want to see the love of their life marry twice?”

The couple also shared their happy news on their Instagram and YouTube pages, with the caption: “Just married!!”

The couple got engaged in season 7 Bachelor in Paradise. After the show ended, Amabel and Pete went long-distance for months before moving in together in New York City in March 2022. In August 2022, they celebrated another milestone in their relationship: their engagement party in downtown Toronto.

“I think my parents originally came up with the idea for us to have an engagement party, just because we were obviously having an unconventional engagement,” Pete told People at the time. “We got engaged and it was a secret for a while. So it’s a great idea to bring some of our family and close friends to celebrate a year later.”

Amabel, 36, explained: “It all happened so quickly, but now we’re a year on the road and we know our parents have never met in person. It was a great way to meet and bond. Friends meet each other’s close friends.”

“We’re glad it’s finally happening,” Pete added, “even though there was a bit of a delay.”
