The Last of Us
While it’s understandable that TV viewers these days are conditioned not to get too attached to a show they like, just in case the streaming service it’s airing on causes it to be canceled for some reason know, I don’t think fans of the early premiere of The Last of Us on HBO have anything to worry about, despite the fact that there is no immediate renewal of season 2 yet.
Even with all the turmoil and cost-cutting and WB Discovery making some tragic cancellations on HBO Max, The Last of Us is performing far too well for anyone to worry about not getting a second season. get. And since the showrunners have already said that there would probably only be half of the second game in season 2, they basically needed to make a season 3 as well.
Why can you be confident in season 2 of The Last Of Us? Well:
- The Last of Us is the second biggest premiere on HBO since Boardwalk Empire in 2010, second only to House of the Dragon.
- In two days, 10 million people watched the premiere of The Last of Us in the United States alone.
- The Last of Us has a sky high 99% rating from critics on Rotten Tomatoes, and an even greater 95% rating from audiences. It also has a 9.4/10 on IMDB, currently tied as the highest rated show in history alongside classics like Breaking Bad and Band of Brothers, and even above TLOU writer Craig Mazin’s last show, Chernobyl, at 9.3.
The Last of Us
You don’t cancel a show like this, and I’d expect an announcement in the coming weeks, if not right after episode 2 here, if it shows an increase in viewership, which it certainly seems in the light of the world word of mouth travels about the show. The Dragon House was renewed after only a pilot, yes, but it’s a unique series since Game of Thrones fans have been building up for eight years, with everyone watching to see if it would lead to the tragic end of the last series (it did!).
As for The Last of Us, I keep my secret theory that the long-term plan is not only to adapt both games over the course of three seasons, but by the time season 3 airs in 2026, it’s entirely possible that Naughty Dog will be released The. Last of Us Part 3, which means season 4/5 could also adapt that game in the future, which doesn’t exist right now. But that’s a conversation for another day. Right now, season 2 is pretty good, and that’s just guaranteed at this point.
