According to a Nevada Sheriff’s Office incident report, Jeremy Renner was trying to avoid a snowmobile and hit his nephew when the accident occurred, leaving him in critical condition.
A report from the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office obtained by CNN said the emergency brake was not engaged, which would have stopped the snow removal tractor as it started down the embankment.
“The piston ball started the snowplow slide, causing Rainer to exit the vehicle without deploying the emergency brake,” the report states. “Although the pistonbolly had some mechanical issues, it is believed based on our mechanical inspection that the parking brake would have prevented the pistonbolly from moving forward. Reaching, he jumped under the car by the track and ran.
The report also noted that the break indicator light was not working and “mechanical issues may have been a factor,” but impairment was not considered a factor.
Rainer’s nephew was able to take care of him until help arrived on the scene.
The 52-year-old actor was taken to a hospital near Reno after a neighbor, who was also a doctor, applied a tourniquet to his leg to stop the bleeding.
Rayner was transferred to the intensive care unit after the surgery he needed to undergo after the accident.
A frantic 911 call was captured moments after the crash, as Rainer could be heard crying out in pain in the background. The neighbor who called emergency operators said the Marvel star’s breathing was “poor” and offered to send a medical helicopter to the scene.
Last week, the two-time Oscar nominee announced that he is home from the hospital and recovering.
The Marvel actor has been hospitalized since Jan. 1 after he “suffered a weather-related accident while snowshoeing” and suffered “extensive” injuries in Lake Tahoe.
Rainer revealed on Saturday that he broke more than 30 bones in a snowmobiling incident on New Year’s Day.
“Morning workouts, resolutions all changed this special new year,” the “Kingston Mayor” star wrote in an Instagram post. “Born from tragedy for my entire family, and quickly focused on putting together actionable love.”
The caption was accompanied by a photo of the 52-year-old actor lying in a hospital-like bed at his home while a medical professional stretched his leg.
“I want to thank everyone for their messages and thoughts for my family and me,” he continued on the post, which quickly racked up a million likes. “Much love and appreciation to you all. These 30+ broken bones will heal, become stronger, as love and connection with family and friends deepen.
“Love and blessings to you all,” he concluded with heart and praying hands emojis.
