One dead, one injured after shooting in Des Moines

Police are investigating a Saturday afternoon shooting that left one man dead and one woman injured. Des Moines police told KCCI that officers responded to calls of gunshots heard around 23rd Street and University Avenue around 5:46 pm Saturday. Dogtown area near Drake University. When officers arrived, they found a 35-year-old man on the sidewalk outside Rico’s restaurant. Police say CPR was being administered when first responders arrived at the scene. Medics quickly took over and took the man to hospital, where he died. She was treated and released from the hospital. Police say two firearms were recovered in connection with the shooting. One gun was found on the sidewalk. Police continue to investigate. Police say they are investigating claims the shooting was an act of self-defense. That area is called the Dogtown area near Drake University.

When officers arrived, they found a 35-year-old man on the sidewalk outside Rico’s restaurant. Police say CPR was being administered when first responders arrived at the scene. Medics quickly took over and took the man to hospital, where he died.

According to the police, the second person, a 29-year-old woman, was dropped off from the hospital by a private vehicle some time later. She has been treated and released from hospital.
