School of Business & Information Sciences Captures Power of Radio

de los Reyes, Dr RUTHERFORD, NJ – Felician University’s School of Business & Information Sciences (SOBIS) is building momentum across the region for a new podcast series titled, Elevating Education. The SOBIS Assistant Professor, Dr. Joy de los Reyes, is the host of this innovative podcast produced by RadioFelician under the direction of radio station manager, Ed Robinson.

Launched in March 2022, Elevating Education highlights academic best practices through interviews with education experts who explore leadership ideas and the changing learning landscape.

Shown in thThe latest episode is Felician University Board of Trustee member, Monique Carkum-Edwards, CEO of Gravitas Executive Consulting and Principal Learning Partner at Harvard Business Publishing Corporate Learning. She gives listeners her advice on motivation, position, and gender in the workplace. Carkum-Edwards advises, “The best time to develop relationships is before you need them. Communication is interpreted in the context of relationships.”

Jon is the author of ten books, including the best-selling book, “Flip Your Classroom,” which has been translated into 13 languages.

The background of Dr. de los Reyes includes ten years of corporate work and fourteen years of higher education. He uses his experience to bridge the gap from learning to work and his students actively participate in that journey. During the Fall semester, he took his Fundamentals of Marketing classes to a radio station where groups of students prepared and recorded 30-second commercials in the studios. They choose a product, identify the purpose and tone, and then create the copy.

Basics of Marketing

“I brought them to experience real engagement, creativity, and the application of marketing concepts around advertising. While we are always trying to find new ways to engage our students, I am very happy to witness everyone living, being creative, and having fun while learning!” According to Dr. de los Reyes, the students are happy with this experience and Dr. de los Reyes is happy with the impact it has had.
