It’s about that time when everyone’s New Year’s resolutions are gone, and we’re back on the couch watching. Fortunately, Netflix is here to make sure you have plenty to add to your watch list. And if you have a very strong will, it can still provide you with new content to keep your attention while you are on that treadmill.
But before jumping into the streamer’s new original content, you can also grab older movies that are joining the service in February. If you miss “The Ring of the Force,” all three of Peter Jackson’s “Lord of the Rings” movies can make you miss Middle-earth for now. And if you’re still feeling a bit of that travel bug, you can “eat the love of prayer” with Julia Roberts in Italy, India, and Bali.
Or maybe you’re feeling nostalgic for Will Smith before all the Slap controversies? Netflix offers “The Pursuit of Happyness,” in which he plays a homeless man and a single father of a boy, played by real-life son Jaden Smith. But there are also the first two “Bad Boys” movies, which you can see as research because reports are that Will Smith and Martin Lawrence are coming back for a fourth installment.
Or if you really want to weigh in on any decisions, check out “The Great British Baking Show: The Professionals.” Of course the appeal of the flagship show is that it’s about amateurs, but at least you can Enjoy Victoria sponges and ice cream treats, maybe even while eating some baked goods from the comfort of your couch.
Here’s what’s coming to Netflix this month worth noting:
The concept of these four-part documents has already been considered – a wealthy pet, a German shepherd to be exact, with a higher net worth than you and probably everyone you know. What follows, though, is whose care the dog was left in and how many versions of “Gunter” have inherited that fortune. “Gunter Millions” delves into the man behind the dog, Maurizio Mayan, an Italian figure known for his tight ties to the Mafia and the culture surrounding him.
Netflix’s “On My Block” boasts an all-inclusive cast, talented young actors and the show’s next-year story set in a predominantly black and Latino neighborhood in Los Angeles. When the show ended its four-season run in late 2021, many people were disappointed to watch it. But now it’s getting a spinoff: “The Fridge.”
“On My Block” balanced a real sociopolitical struggle with a vivid mystery, friendship, and innocent romance, and “Freeridge” looks like it’s set to do the same. Follows a new set of characters, sisters Gloria (Kaila Monterroso Mejia) and Ines (Brianna Salaz) and their friends Kim (Tenzing Norgey Trainor) and Demi (Ciara Riley Wilson), who accidentally find themselves cursed with a mysterious old box. , “Freeridge” puts a new spin on the neighborhood and its residents that will delight viewers.
A fresh take on the house-swap rom-com, “Your Place or Mine” stars Reese Witherspoon and Ashton Kutcher as best friends Debbie and Peter, who have absolutely no romantic feelings for each other (One Night beyond the hookup when they first met). Not only do they live on opposite coasts, but they have nearly opposite lifestyles—Debbie is a one-of-a-kind single mom while Peter changes life plans (and girlfriends) with ease. When the two swap houses for a week, they get a glimpse into each other’s lives that may lead to love.
Written by “Crazy X-Girlfriends” Alan Brush McKenna, the film also stars Rachel Bloom and Willa Lovell, along with Jess Williams, Tig Notaro, Sherry Appleby and Steve Zahn.
Previously known as one of South Carolina’s most famous families, the Murdoch family has been mired in scandal and accusations (and subsequently all over the news) for over a year. Soon after Murdoch’s son, Paul, is responsible for the death of young Mallory Beach after a drunken boating accident, he and his mother, Maggie, are murdered. What followed was the revelation of a century of corruption, power and secrets surrounding the family. The three-part series will feature first-hand accounts of that fateful night on board, many of whom have not yet spoken about Maggie and Paul’s accident or double murder, including from Paul Murdoch’s longtime girlfriend, Mallory Beach’s childhood friend, Mallory’s boyfriend and more.
